Well many questions come up when we mention prayer; I will list each question and then follow through with the answer.

Who should pray?

Well the obvious answer to this question is everyone should pray. A prayer is a request made to God. They cover prayers for the little things in our daily lives, to prayer for Christ to come into our lives. At some point in everyones life, they have a need or a request that needs to be met. Well in order for God to answer our requests and needs, we need to pray about them and confess them to Him. Once we make our prayer known to God, He then can hear and react according to His will in our lives. The great thing about prayer is that God hears us from the first time we pray and it is then that He sends out His angels to minister to our needs. In Daniel 10:12 reads, Then, he (the angel) said to me, Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. (Parenthesis mine) So we see here that from the first time we humble ourselves before God and pray, He hears us and ministers accordingly.

What should we pray (for)?

Based on the individual, each area should be personal and differential according to their needs. We should all pray for things such as wisdom, understanding, Gods direction in our lives, and things of this nature. When we pray we should ask the Lord for the things that we need to fulfill his purpose in our lives. Dont focus on material possessions, focus on immaterial things that are needed to fulfill what God needs and wants to do in our lives. This is not to say that we shouldnt ask for things, because it says in Gods word that we should ask all things in prayer with belief and we shall receive (Matt 21:22). Something that has helped me when I pray is this little formula, so to speak: ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication)! You tell God you love Him in your own special way, then you tell Him that you have sinned and fallen short, then you give Him thanks for the things in you life, and finally you ask Him for those things you need. Pray is not limited to only those things I have mentioned above. God will direct you in prayer, if you ask Him to. This is just a general guideline to help you as you grow to become prayer warriors! It is very important that no matter what you pray, you ask it in Jesus name, hence the term, and We ask these things in Jesus name, Amen.

When should I pray?

Well there is no set time you should pray, but I feel like one should pray whenever they feel it necessary. Some might say to this, I dont need to pray at all then Well if this is how you feel, then I regret to tell you that you may need to seek God more often than what you are doing. As you start to pray, I would suggest that you pray when you first wake up. You can go before God first thing in order to tell Him thank you and to ask Him to lead you throughout the day. You may want to add other things, but I find it highly effective to pray right when I get up, it kind of sets the day in motion for God to move. You may then feel compelled to pray through out the day as the Lord speaks to you and places things on your heart. These prayers will definitely vary from person to person, because our lives are different from one another. Then when you go to bed at night I would encourage you to pray again. It is this time where you thank God again, but you bring to Him those things that were brought to your attention throughout the day. I pray often because it is said to ask all things. I do just that, I ask all things, no matter how big or small. What God is looking for in prayer is obedience (by obedience do you mean faith or commitment to God) and to see those cry out to Him. You may or may not have heard this expression, but it is very true, Ask not, receive not!

Where should I pray?

Once again this is not as important to God as is your obedience. However, one can pray anywhere they would like. There are no rules here about the place you have to pray. You are probably aware that prayer is often lot allowed in Public Schools. Well I serve a God, who is above them and their laws, so I say pray. I am not asking you to openly go out and rebel against all school faculty and rules, but if you want to pray, then pray, either by yourself, or with others. You can pray in your car, in your house (Acts 21:5-17), in a pool, on a beach (Acts 21:5), at your desk, it doesnt matter where you pray, as long as you pray. You see God is omnipresent, this means everywhere all at once. So no matter where you may be, if you call upon Him in prayer, He will be there to listen.

Why should I pray?

The answer is as simple as the question. We should pray because it shows our love, trust, and obedience to the Father. When you pray to God, this is your way of talking and communicating with Him. This is your way of telling God that you love Him, you need Him, and that you are sorry for the sin in your life. When we pray it is like talking to our parents or guardians. We are telling God what is inside of us, we are telling God to help us and others, and we are telling Him to fix the broken pieces.

Why should I pray? = COME (Communicating, Obedience, Mercy, Expressing love)

How should I pray?

This is entirely up to you and God. You can stand, kneel, sit, bow, or even just lift up your hands. You can pray with your eyes open or closed, you can pray to yourself or speak. It simply depends on where you are at and perhaps what you feel is necessary. When it comes to praying silently or out loud, it really depends on your relationship with God. I find that the more I pray out loud, the more I accomplish. It says in His word, (Mathew 6:6), Go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. What Jesus is saying is that we should go into a place where it is just you and God. This is when you can really open up your hear to Him and tell Him everything you need to. More importantly, the more you pray, the more you and God will grow and then He can tell you how He would like you to pray (Romans 8:26-27)

Some of you may still have questions like, I do those things, but I do not get answers to my prayers, whats up with that? There are a bunch of reasons why all of our prayers are not answered: it could be because of sin in your life (Psalm 66:18), it could be because of selfishness (James 4:3), or maybe it is doubt (James 1:5-7), disobedience (Proverbs 28:9), inhumanity (Proverbs 21:13), and finally pride (Luke 18:11, 12, 14). These probably arent the only reasons, it very well could be that what you are asking God in prayer, is not what He intends or intended for you to have. God knows what is best for all of us, we just need to trust Him. Finally I will leave you with the words of (James 5:17), Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, eager prayers of a righteous man are powerful indeed.
