What is sin?

Sin as defined by Strong’s is anything that violates or transgresses the religious or moral law of God or the way of righteousness. Now this may be too broad or vague for some, but to put in smaller terms, anything that is not looked upon with favor by God is sin. To give you some specific examples of sin are, well first the Ten Commandments. If anyone is to violate anyone of these laws or commandments, this most certainly can be defined as a sin. Now you may look at drinking or smoking as not being a sin, but it is. Anything that defiles or brings harm to the temple of God is a sin. It says that you are not to defile the temple of God and we are the temples that God is referring to. Drinking on the other hand can and cannot be considered a sin. If you were to drink one beer or one drink that is alcoholic, you need to weigh the facts. Will this cloud my mind or my body, or to put it simply, will this impair my judgement. Second, will I be a true witness of the Lord if and when I consume this beverage. If you answered yes to the first and no to the second, then the answer would have to be yes this is a sin. Let us look at lying, even the little white lie is sin. It says in His word that God is truth, so if we lie, we are going against the very essence of what God is and stands for. Now some and many classify sin into categories of little too big. We tend to think that lying is not as bad as murder, well to put it plainly there is no difference. No sin is any less or any greater than another. All unrighteousness is sin, and Jesus took them all when He drank from the cup. He drank every one that was, is, and is going to take place until the end. Now I know we all have pet sins, but we need to not lose focus of other sins, because if we let our guard down, then we will become vulnerable to these. These are just a couple of examples of what I consider to be sin, but if you search the word of God, and pray about this topic, God will reveal to you the knowledge and wisdom you will need to recognize and overcome sin. To list one area of sin, you may look in Galatians 5:19-21. I encourage all of you to look at you lives and evaluate those things that may and may not be sin.
